If you want professional-grade studio monitoring with a wide soundstage for critical listening, choose Superlux HD681B; if you need wireless freedom and extended battery life specifically for watching TV or movies without disturbing others, choose PROW Headphones. This isn't a case of one being objectively better than the other; it is a choice between two completely different philosophies of audio consumption. One is built for the engineer, the producer, and the gamer who demands accuracy in a wired environment. The other is engineered for the home theater enthusiast, the senior citizen, or anyone who wants to enjoy late-night entertainment without headphones that feel like a vice on their head.
• Superlux HD681B: Delivers a massive 10Hz–30kHz frequency response and balanced 50mm drivers for precise audio reproduction, but requires a wired connection and offers no active noise cancellation.
• PROW Headphones: Features a lightweight 140g design with 30-hour battery life and versatile USB/Bluetooth connectivity for TV use, but has a narrower frequency range and lacks the detailed resolution of studio monitors.
• Best for: The Superlux is for the mixing engineer, streamer, or audiophile who sits in front of a desk. The PROW is for the family member who wants to watch TV late at night or the traveler seeking comfort on long flights.
The Superlux HD681B is not designed for convenience; it is designed for fidelity. When you look at the specifications, you see a product born from decades of engineering heritage focused entirely on "Natural Sound Reproduction." The heart of this headphone is its 50-millimeter dynamic driver paired with a frequency response that stretches from 10 Hz all the way to 30 kHz. That is an incredibly wide spectrum for a budget-conscious monitor. Most consumer headphones cap out at 20 kHz, which is the theoretical limit of human hearing, but extending the range down to 10 Hz ensures you aren't missing the subtle rumble of a bass drum or the deep sub-bass in a film score.
This level of detail makes it ideal for professionals. If you are tracking vocals, mixing a track, or gaming where spatial awareness is critical, the HD681B provides a wide soundstage and impressive dynamics. The semi-open design allows air to pass through, creating that "in-hall" experience mentioned in the product details. You can hear the reverb of a room, the separation between instruments, and the texture of a vocal performance with exceptional resolution. The impedance is set at 32 ohms, making it relatively easy to drive, while the maximum power handling of 300 mW suggests it can handle high-volume sessions without distortion.

However, this focus on sound quality comes with specific trade-offs. First, it is strictly wired. The single-sided cable is 2.5 meters long, which gives you plenty of room to move around your desk or studio, but it anchors you to your source device. There is no Bluetooth, no battery, and no wireless transmitter. Second, the ear placement is technically described as over-ear, yet the design relies on passive noise cancellation. Without active noise canceling technology, you will hear the outside world, which might be distracting in a noisy office or a busy airport gate. The self-adjusting headband and soft leather earpads are comfortable for long sessions, weighing in at 277 grams, but they are heavier than many modern wireless alternatives. This headphone is for the person who prioritizes the purity of the signal over the ease of untangling cords.
The PROW Headphones take a radically different approach. They are built around the concept of accessibility and comfort for the home environment, specifically targeting users who want to watch television without waking up the house. The most striking feature here is the weight. At only 140 grams, these are significantly lighter than the Superlux. This ultra-light design, combined with memory foam and premium protein leather earmuffs, means you can wear them for hours without feeling pressure on your ears. For seniors, parents, or anyone with sensitive ears, this ergonomic fit is the primary selling point.
Connectivity is where the PROW truly shines for the average consumer. It supports Bluetooth 5.3, ensuring a stable connection with a range of up to 10 meters. But the real magic lies in the included accessories. The package comes with a USB transmitter, optical fiber cables, coaxial cables, RCA audio cables, and a 3.5 mm cable. This versatility means you can connect to almost any TV, regardless of whether it has built-in Bluetooth. You can plug into an older TV with RCA outputs or a modern soundbar via optical. The goal is clear: eliminate the frustration of setup and get straight to watching.
Battery life is another major advantage for this model. With a built-in 500 mAh rechargeable battery, you get up to 30 hours of continuous playtime. This eliminates the anxiety of running out of power during a movie marathon. Even better, the fast charging capability allows you to get three hours of listening time from just a 15-minute charge. However, there are compromises to make space for this convenience. The frequency response is standard, ranging from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, which is sufficient for speech and general music but lacks the extended low-end and high-end detail of the Superlux. The drivers are smaller at 40 millimeters compared to the 50mm units in the Superlux. Furthermore, the controls rely on push buttons rather than touch, and the noise control is limited to sound isolation rather than active cancellation. This is a tool for relaxation and communication, not for critical audio analysis.
• Best for Airplane Travel → PROW Headphones. The wireless nature, 30-hour battery, and superior comfort make them ideal for long flights where you want to watch movies without being tethered to a seatback screen or portable player.
• Best for Studio Monitoring → Superlux HD681B. The 10Hz–30kHz frequency response and semi-open design provide the accurate, balanced sound required for mixing and mastering work.
• Best for Wireless Freedom → PROW Headphones. With Bluetooth 5.3 and a USB transmitter, you can walk around the living room or kitchen without worrying about cable length or tangles.
• Best for Long Listening Sessions → PROW Headphones. At 140 grams, the weight difference is noticeable after a few hours; the memory foam padding reduces fatigue significantly more than the 277g Superlux.
• Best for Gaming Immersion → Superlux HD681B. The wider soundstage and extended frequency range allow you to pinpoint enemy footsteps and hear subtle environmental cues that compressed wireless audio might miss.
• Best for Older Adults or Seniors → PROW Headphones. The simple push-button controls, large ear cups, and ability to connect to non-Bluetooth TVs make this the most user-friendly option for the elderly.
• Best Cable Management → Superlux HD681B. While it is wired, the single-sided 2.5-meter cable prevents tangling and keeps the cord organized better than managing a wireless charging brick and dongle.
• Best Value for Audio Precision → Superlux HD681B. You are paying for raw acoustic performance and a wide driver size, getting studio-quality specs that usually cost much more.
In my opinion, if I had to pick one pair for my own daily use, especially considering the reality of modern life where we spend hours in transit or relaxing at home, I would choose the PROW Headphones. The sheer convenience of having 30 hours of battery life and the ability to connect wirelessly to a TV without fiddling with adapters changes how I consume media. The comfort factor alone is a game-changer; knowing I can put them on and forget I am wearing them for a whole movie is worth more than the extra 10 kHz of frequency response. While the Superlux is a fantastic piece of engineering for specific tasks like mixing or gaming, the PROW fits the broader lifestyle of someone who values peace, quiet, and uninterrupted entertainment. For airplane travel specifically, the wireless capability and lightweight build make the PROW the clear winner for a stress-free journey.
While the PROW is great for comfort, neither is specifically marketed as "fast charging open ear headphones for warehouse work," though the PROW's wireless range could help. The Superlux is wired and may be less practical for moving around a loud workspace.
No, both models rely on passive noise isolation or sound isolation. Neither features active noise cancellation technology, so they are not specifically optimized as "open ear earbuds for yoga" if silence is the priority.
The Superlux is built with metal and plastic components for durability but is wired, which limits movement. The PROW is lightweight but designed for stationary TV viewing. Neither is explicitly rated as "sports earbuds for switch" or athletic use.
Yes, the PROW includes a USB transmitter and various cables (optical, RCA, 3.5mm) specifically designed to connect to devices without Bluetooth functionality, ensuring compatibility with older televisions.
