If you want professional-grade audio fidelity with a secure, over-ear seal for long mixing sessions or studio work, choose Superlux HD660PRO; if you need wireless freedom, massive battery life, and a lightweight foldable design for commuting, choose JBL Tune 510BT. This isn't about which one sounds "better" in a vacuum, but rather which engineering philosophy serves your specific daily rhythm. The decision comes down to whether you prioritize the acoustic isolation of a closed-back studio monitor or the convenience of Bluetooth streaming that lasts all day without a single cable tethering you to your device.
• Superlux HD660PRO: Delivers deep, punchy bass and clear highs via 40mm Neodymium drivers with an over-ear fit designed for marathon sessions; the trade-off is the wired-only connectivity and lack of active noise cancellation.
• JBL Tune 510BT: Offers seamless Bluetooth 5.0 streaming with a massive 40-hour battery life and a lightweight, foldable form factor; the trade-off is an on-ear design that may cause more fatigue than over-ear models and smaller 32mm drivers.
• Best For: Choose the Superlux if you are an audio creator or gamer needing precise sound staging and comfort for big ears during extended wear; pick the JBL if you are a commuter or casual listener who values portability and never wanting to carry a cable.
The Superlux HD660PRO is built for the person who treats audio as a primary function, not just a background accessory. Its core strength lies in the 40mm Neodymium drivers and closed-back enclosure. These aren't just numbers on a spec sheet; they translate to a physical experience where sound is contained within the ear cups, creating a natural, well-balanced output with minimal distortion. If you have large ears, the over-ear placement is a critical feature because it fully surrounds the ear rather than pressing against the pinna. This design choice significantly reduces fatigue during those marathon listening sessions when you are editing video, mixing tracks, or gaming late into the night.
The impedance of 32 ohms makes this unit surprisingly versatile for its price point. You can plug it directly into a laptop, tablet, or smartphone without needing a dedicated amplifier, yet it still delivers the power required for professional monitoring. The included accessories reinforce this utility: a durable 8.2-foot straight cable ensures you have reach around a desk, while the inclusion of a 6.3mm adapter means you can connect directly to mixers or guitars. The build quality focuses on durability, using rugged materials and swivel ear cups that adjust to any head shape. Whether you are wearing them for a podcast recording or just listening to music, the upgraded leather headband and ultra-soft velvet ear pads provide a tactile comfort that feels substantial and secure.

However, this product is not for everyone. Because it is strictly wired, you cannot walk away from your source device. If your workflow involves moving between rooms or commuting on a train, the 8.2-foot cable becomes a constraint rather than a feature. Furthermore, there is no active noise cancellation technology here; it relies entirely on passive isolation provided by the velour and synthetic leather seals. If you need silence in a noisy environment like a busy airport, these headphones will let the world in unless you rely on the passive seal alone. They are also heavier at 11.4 ounces compared to many consumer wireless options, which might feel imposing if you only plan to wear them for short bursts. But for the user who sits at a desk for hours, the weight is a sign of robust construction, not a burden.
The JBL Tune 510BT targets the modern mobile user who refuses to be tethered by cords. Its defining characteristic is the wireless Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, which allows for seamless streaming from smartphones and tablets up to 10 meters away. The standout feature here is undoubtedly the battery life. With 40 hours of playtime, this pair of headphones can survive a week of heavy use without ever touching a charger. For the traveler or the student who forgets to charge devices often, the speed charge capability is a lifesaver—a mere five-minute charge grants two hours of playback, ensuring you never miss a beat even if you rush out the door.
Comfort in this category is defined by portability. The on-ear design places the cushions directly on the ear rather than surrounding them. While this makes the headset incredibly lightweight and easy to fold into a bag, it creates a different pressure dynamic. The plush ear cushions are soft, but the clamping force is necessary to keep the 32mm drivers sealed against the ear. This design is excellent for quick commutes, gym sessions, or working in a coffee shop where you need to hear ambient sounds occasionally. The multi-point connectivity is another killer feature for the multitasker; you can switch effortlessly between a video playing on a tablet and a call coming in on a phone without manually disconnecting and reconnecting.
Yet, this convenience comes with compromises regarding pure audio fidelity and long-term comfort for specific users. The 32mm drivers, while tuned for JBL's signature Pure Bass Sound, simply have less surface area than the 40mm units found in the Superlux. This affects the depth and detail of the soundstage, particularly in the upper frequencies. More importantly, the on-ear form factor can become uncomfortable for people with larger ears after a few hours of continuous wear. The pressure points on the outer ear can lead to soreness, making this a poor choice for anyone looking for "best in ear earbuds for big ears" style comfort over long periods. Additionally, the plastic enclosure feels lighter and less premium than the fabric and leather mix of the studio headphones, though it does contribute to the foldable, travel-ready nature of the device.

• Best for casual commuters → JBL Tune 510BT: The lightweight on-ear design and bass-forward tuning suit quick trips and everyday listening without the bulk of a studio setup.
In my opinion, I would buy the Superlux HD660PRO for my primary listening setup. The combination of the 40mm drivers, the closed-back architecture, and the over-ear fit creates a listening experience that feels far more complete and immersive than the on-ear alternative. For someone with big ears, the difference in comfort is undeniable; the JBL's on-ear pressure eventually becomes a nuisance, whereas the Superlux's velvet pads and headband distribute weight evenly. While the JBL wins on battery life, the wired connection of the Superlux offers zero latency and zero degradation in sound quality, which is non-negotiable for serious listening. If you are torn between convenience and genuine audio performance, the Superlux HD660PRO delivers the latter with a reliability that justifies the lack of wires.
Yes, the Superlux HD660PRO features an over-ear design with soft velvet pads that accommodate larger ears comfortably, unlike the JBL Tune 510BT which uses an on-ear design that can press against the outer ear.
The JBL Tune 510BT offers up to 40 hours of wireless playtime with a 5-minute speed charge, while the Superlux HD660PRO has no battery as it is a purely wired headphone powered by your audio source.
Neither model includes active noise cancellation technology; both rely on passive isolation, with the Superlux offering superior passive isolation due to its closed-back, over-ear design.
Yes, the Superlux HD660PRO includes a 6.3mm adapter that allows direct connection to guitars, mixers, and studio gear, whereas the JBL Tune 510BT requires a Bluetooth connection or an auxiliary cable (if available).
