What is it?
The Read-a-Thon is our big fundraiser for the year!
How it works:
During a two-week period in November, students ask family and friends to sponsor them based on the number of minutes they read. All time-tracking and sponsoring is done online so even far-away friends can sponsor students.
The whole school gets involved, with designated times to read during school (for example, reading in the hallways in pajamas!), teachers and staff are 'caught' reading, and sometimes Rhubarb, the mascot for the Tacoma Rainiers, stops by! The students really have a good time, the school gets some money, and we all get some reading done.
Students also earn prizes that they can choose from the Read-a-Thon website. PTA celebrates the top reading class with a special treat.
When and where
This event comes right after the Book Fair so students can jump right in and get credit for minutes spent reading their new books.
Reading takes place sometimes during school, but mostly at home.
