For this school project, we had to make textile creations out of denim, experimenting with different ways to use denim, and combining it with recycled materials like potato nets.
So I took inspiration from natural minerals, for instance The Giant's Causeway in Ireland, or malachite, oyster pearls, the crystallization of minerals, etc...
These robraques are my textile creations, as you can see, I use a lot the volume and texture of the jeans to create interesting shapes.
The first is a set of holes covered by potato fillet and rolls on different levels of height of jeans, and the second one is a member of superposition of jeans, front face and back face, with in its center the interior of a carton of milk, hence the shiny side that we find in oyster mother-of-pearl.
I also did some research on texture and pattern with bleach, to represent the dryness of the soil, the cracks.
The goal was to create dimension to the garment and to transcribe the mineral texture.
After that, we had to create 5 figurines using our textile creations on clothes.
Finally, the final creation, with long sleeves with a cracked texture with bleach. I also added jewels created using the inside of a can which gives a shiny side. This top is very geometric, which gives the illusion of the crystallization of minerals, as we can see for example on the corset, with the denim details.
