President & Treasurer:
Clint Bauer (Ralph)
"I’m looking forward to the chance to fish with as many club members as possible and get more people involved in events and activities"
Vice President & Fly Tying Coordinator:
Garth Lester
"I’m looking forward to fishing as often as possible with as many members of the club as possible and learning and sharing as we go along."
Secretary & Social Media/Marketing Officer:
Aimee Clark (Aimz)
"I'm most looking forward to helping the club grow and making the experience for members as positive and helpful as possible."
Captain:
Nick
"We have a lot of members who are freshwater trout and salmon fly fishers from down south or overseas. My goal is to have more club members get onto quality saltwater fish locally and more consistently. I aim to do this by posting regular detailed descriptions to members about where exactly I found the fish and how I caught them. I will encourage discussion about what is and isn’t working so we can, as a collective, share ideas and successes. It’s about growing our existing team spirit to increase participation and sense of belonging across the club."
Procurement Officer & Marketing Assistant:
Max Ciacia
"I’m looking forward to procuring member merchandise and goodies for raffles and prizes. But mainly to support and assist the committee to progress the good work started by our previous leadership group"
Each month (from meeting to meeting) there's one type of fish members are invited to target.
The winner is decided at a meeting then chooses the next months Fish of the Month.
There's no official prize other than bragging rights. That's enough isn't it?!
Visiting the Sunny Coast and want some tips to make the most of your time here?
We’re happy to offer some basic info to help you get started while in the area. A few spots worth checking out include:
Chambers Island, Maroochydore
Cotton Tree, at the mouth of the Maroochy River
Golden Beach, Caloundra
Bribie Island, via walk across from Golden Beach
As for gear and flies:
A 6–8 weight rod with a 9ft leader around 15lb is a solid choice
A floating line works well in most situations
Flies to try:
Clouser Minnows
Crazy Charlies
Deceivers
Any good prawn imitation
We hope this helps you have a great session or two while on the coast!
If you’re moving to the area soon or visit here frequently and looking for more detailed advice, our club is open to members who live here. We invite new locals to attend 1–2 meetings before deciding if they’d like to join. Our members are generous with their knowledge and learn a lot from each other through our meetings, events, and exclusive Facebook group.
A few of our members actually don't live here and still enjoy receiving the meeting minutes, interacting in the Facebook group and coming to events when they can - so we welcome non-Sunny Coast locals as well.
Interested in learning to fly fish or improving your skills?
Complete this short form and we'll pass your details on to our club members.
If one of our experienced members is available and happy to help, they may contact you directly.
Use this form to record any fish you catch on fly around the Sunny Coast and surrounds - from Petrie to Hervey Bay!
Sharing your catches helps us build a club record of what species are around, when they show up, and what flies work best.
