Where Scandinavian simplicity meets joyful color
As an interior designer at IKEA, I remodel rooms in showroom to maintain a fresh, updated look and showcase trendy design inspirations. Using an insight from the sales department and my own research of the neighborhood, I created mood boards, personas, and interior design solutions that were locally relevant.
In this specific project, I got an opportunity to remodel a bedroom. This bedroom is a primary bedroom for a joyful couple that just gave a birth to their new baby.

I started with showroom floor study so that I would have rooms that vary one from another in terms of style expression and living situations. After gathering enough information, I created personas and the mood board that catches their spirit. This was a primary bedroom for a young interracial couple located in Fresh Meadows who just gave a birth to the new baby. The mood board captured the couple's young and joyful spirit with playful patterns and light wood textures, highlighting IKEA's Scandinavian roots with a modern touch.
After creating a mood board, I had dived into planning phase, where I get to ideate and create actual solutions for the new room. This phase is divided into three steps, which are rough planning, fine planning, and detailed planning.
During the rough planning phase, the goal is to brainstorm as many ideas as possible to explore various options and opportunities. Then, I transition into the fine planning stage, where I focus on detailed modelling using 3D software like Revit and select the right accessories that align with the personas I’ve created. Finally, I prepare all necessary documentation—design, sales, and logistics briefs— in fine planning to ensure everything stays on track for a smooth implementation.
