Theme of June workshop is explore Lindy Hop and Balboa not as disparate disjointed dances but as two reference points on a continuous spectrum of dance styles. The workshop will introduce important Balboa techniques usable while dancing Lindy Hop to make learning Balboa incremental, natural, and fun. The material also adds variety into Lindy Hop.
Instruction Session 1 - Lindy Hop in Closed Position
Learn to do Lindy Hop 6-count and 8-count fully in closed position. Compared with open position, the closed position introduces spatial restrictions in motion but enables additional partner communication. This session explores the closed position partner connection and new ways dance of floor navigation.
Instruction Session 2 - Lindy and Balboa Transitions
This session will introduce ways of cleanly transitioning between dancing Lindy Hop and dancing Balboa via common patterns such as turns, passes, swingouts, and come-arounds. Extra focus will be given to the smooth adjustment of partner connection.
Instruction Session 3 - Non-Displacing Balboa Basic
Even though the balboa pattern are conceptually simple, dancing balboa still feels very different from other dances with the same timing pattern. The non-displacing weight change is an important technique that gives dancing balboa its quintessential smooth feeling. Learn how to use this technique to stay in partnership, introduce rhythm variations, and maintain one own's optimum posture.
