Princess Europa was playing by the sea when Zeus looked down and noticed how lovely she was. Telling his son Hermes to drive the king’s cattle down to the shore, Zeus changed himself into a bull and moved unsuspected among the animals. With a coat as white as snow and horns like polished metal, he was the finest-looking bull and charmed Europa. When he crouched down, she climbed onto his back. But then he quickly carried Europa out of sea and she was forced to cling on until they had reached the island of Crete
Fun Facts!
The Pleiades (PLEE-a-dees), a cluster of stars that make up Taurus’s back, is only 50 million years old, which is very young in terms of the Universe.
To the early Hebrews, Taurus was the first constellation in the zodiac and was represented by the first letter in their alphabet, Aleph.
In Persian mythology, the constellation represents the bull Mithras, the god who combines the purity and invincibility of the Sun with a warrior spirit.
