This project involved creating a door decoration to put on residence hall doors that could be personalized to the resident who lived in the room.
The reasons behind creating the door decoration are safety and a visual representation that the room is occupied. When our college campus security needs to know quickly if there is a resident living in a room, they look at the door decoration. It also tells them how many are living in that room.
Custodial staff also know that a room is occupied if they need to key into a room for cleaning purposes.
The inspiration for the door decoration is the Throne of Glass book series by Sarah J. Maas.

These are the photos I used in my image. I converted them into vector images in Adobe Illustrator and then used them to create the final image:
The additional shapes needed were just shapes I created in InDesign. I also used color overlays with a gradient to get the broze color. Due to time constraints and a lack of knowledge I was unable to make the gradient look three dimentional. I wish I knew how to do that, so it didn't come out as good as I wanted. But I think it is similar to how the door knocker was described in the book, so I am happy with it.
