This project involved creating a door decoration to put on residence hall doors that could be personalized to the resident who lived in the room.
The reasons behind creating the door decoration are safety and a visual representation that the room is occupied. When our college campus security needs to know quickly if there is a resident living in a room, they look at the door decoration. It also tells them how many are living in that room.
Custodial staff also know that a room is occupied if they need to key into a room for cleaning purposes.
The inspiration for the door decoration is the Throne of Glass book series by Sarah J. Maas.
Instead of finding reference photos I looked for images of the Amulet of Orynth that is mentioned in the book series. I took this image to use as part of the door decoration because I wanted it to be an entry in a book:
I took the image and edited it in Photoshop until I had a black and white version of it. Then I took a stock image of a book and old paper and combine the three into the basis of the graphic.
