This project involved creating a door decoration to put on residence hall doors that could be personalized to the resident who lived in the room.
The reasons behind creating the door decoration are safety and a visual representation that the room is occupied. When our college campus security needs to know quickly if there is a resident living in a room, they look at the door decoration. It also tells them how many are living in that room.
Custodial staff also know that a room is occupied if they need to key into a room for cleaning purposes.
The inspiration for the door decoration is the Lord of the Rings book series by J.R.R. Tolkien. This matches the One Ring door decoration, where am I board, the duty board, and The One Ring whiteboard art.
There were no reference photos for this project. I just looked at images of playing cards for different games and came up with the layout of the card. I did take an image of the stone for the card.
