This project involved creating a door decoration to put on residence hall doors that could be personalized to the resident who lived in the room.
The reasons behind creating the door decoration are safety and a visual representation that the room is occupied. When our college campus security needs to know quickly if there is a resident living in a room, they look at the door decoration. It also tells them how many are living in that room.
Custodial staff also know that a room is occupied if they need to key into a room for cleaning purposes.
The inspiration for the door decoration is the Tiger's Curse book series by Colleen Houck. This matches the Socialization bulletin board, the Armband door decoration, and the White Tiger whiteboard art.
I looked up a reference photo of a real image of a tiger's paw print and sketched this image. I used a charcoal pencil to draw it and then I added a box at the bottom for the residents' names. After drawing the original picture I photocopied it to make multiples.
