Dr Sumida's Background
Dr Sumida has been interested in dentistry since the age of 12 influenced by his dentist, Dr. Leon Mirviss. Dr Sumida's grandfather settled in Visalia during the late 1800's.
Dr Sumida graduated from Redwood High School with a 4.0 GPA, awards, and scholarships. He attended COS and UCLA on a Regents Scholarship and earned a BA in Microbiology 1981 with a 4.00 GPA, Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa. In 1985, Dr Sumida received his DDS from UCLA with Omicron Kappa Upsilon, Mosby Publishing Award. Dr Sumida practiced dentistry before completing his specialty in periodontics at UCSF in 1988 . Dr Sumida worked for a Fresno periodontist before entering private practice in Visalia. He also worked in San Jose for over three years. Dr Sumida was an annual lecturer and served as an assistant professor at UCSF (2003-2007).
