A few notes about having a box on a vehicle like this 4Runner. It has a sunroof, but as with any combo like this, the sunroof gets covered when a box is strapped on. On the good side, I was a little worried about the box covering the mini shark fin antenna at the rear of the 4Runner. There was absolutely no noticeable obstruction for the reception of the XM Radio on the whole trip. Sure, it cut out on occasion when in a deep canyon, but it actually did better than previous vehicles without a box on it. That technology is coming along nicely.

The 4Runner continues to be a family friendly vehicle. The rear seats have enough room to comfortably fit kid car seats, both forward and rear facing and all the organizational spaces mentioned above certainly help. With kids comes lots of gear and the generous cargo space for an SUV this size makes it easy to fit everything you need in the vehicle for weekend getaway trips (with the exception of bringing skis). I would think a family of four with little kids could even fit everything they need (maybe not everything they want) for a long weekend camping trip. But really, adding a box to the roof for extra space is no big deal and at that point, there really is plenty of room to hit the dispersed camping that a vehicle like this is designed to get to. In short, if Toyota had forgotten to take this back, we would have been OK with that. In fact, we might even go out and get one ourselves.

Make sure you can access a small cooler during the trip with bottled water and other healthy, energy-boosting foods to avoid dehydration and drowsiness. To maintain alertness behind the wheel, eating small meals and snacks along the way is better than stopping at the all-you-can-eat buffet and becoming sleepy.

Head-To-Head: The Steelheads closed the road portion of the season series last weekend with a pair of wins, finishing with a 7-1-0 record in Rapid City, and overall on the season the Steelheads are 11-1-2 against the Rush head-to-head. Forwards Will Merchant (7:52 3rd) and Kyle Schempp (PP, 12:38 3rd) added to the advantage in the third period to seal the 4-0 win. Goaltender Tomas Sholl (24-11-0) halted all 20 shots faced in his third shutout win of the season, and Adam Carlson (19-16-5) turned aside 23 of 27 shots in the loss.

Next Game: The Steelheads finish the road portion of their season series with the Rush on Saturday, Mar. 23 at 7:05 p.m. from Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on 1350AM KITK and ECHL.TV.

I love a Rack that is stuffed to the absolute gills. This is not the impression I got when I arrived in Auburn only to be greeted by the flimsiest cosmetics department in Rack history (on the trip when I'd decided to finally restock on Clinique moisturizer), tables of cheap jewelry apparently whipped into disarray by an extreme weather event, and a home section anchored by a $10 guacamole-cooling contraption (on the trip when I'd decided to buy my aunt a birthday gift). A disappointing development for a Rack rumored to be the best in the area.
