JAZZ WORKSHOP

WELCOME TO THE CONEJO INSTITUTE OF MUSIC!

COVID-19 UPDATE: 5/13/20

We hope that you are all staying safe and healthy during these unprecedented times!

Due to current public health guidance on COVID-19, the Conejo Institute of Music will offer an online course in Jazz Improvisation with weekly lessons to support the continued practice of beginning, intermediate and advanced soloists.

DATES/TIMES: 4 weeks of online asynchronous online course material offered between July 6 through July 31 with two one hour live sessions per week to support the content. Live sessions will also be recorded for all participants to review. Additionally, 4 additional weeks of Jazz Improv tips will be distributed via our new online community: JazzImprov.org - launching soon.

COURSE: Our 2020 Summer participants will have access to all 3 levels of lessons per week: Fundamental, Intermediate and Advanced Improvisation Skills.

WHERE/WHEN: Asynchronous materials will allow students to work at their own convenience. Live group sessions will be conducted on Monday and Friday from July 6-31 at a time most convenient for all enrolled participants.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS:

Each week course content will be posted focusing on fundamental, intermediate and advanced concepts for Jazz Improvisation. An emphasis will be placed on listening, transcribing, and applying ideas directly from legendary Jazz Masters into their own solos along with connecting the material to Jazz Theory. Every lesson will include 3 approaches: Fundamental, Intermediate, and Advanced soloing techniques that give each weekly lesson 3 different student activities.

A sample of the weekly schedule is as follows:

  • Monday: New content for the week is posted followed by a live session for questions and support.
  • Tuesday through Thursday: Students practice the content and submit recordings for feedback.
  • Friday: A wrap-up session on the current week's content.

REQUIRED COURSE MATERIALS: An internet connection, computer and any device with a microphone that you can record with.

SUGGESTED TUITION: $200 We are not a non-profit and are not able to provide receipts for tax-deduction purposes, but we don't want to discourage anyone from participating. For the launch of our online program during these times please feel free to contribute any amount you can.
