"Hi! I’m a college-level field hockey player. I went to overnight field hockey camps every summer all through high school. I definitely recommend packing extra field hockey socks and HOCSOCX. They will prevent you from getting any sweat rash on your shins. Also make sure you label ALL your gear. If your camp is anything like the camps I did, there is a lot of bags and equipment being left everywhere. Missing water bottles and backpacks will happen. Make sure you take tape and label your belongings with your name and phone number. Also, I recommend packing an extra (and already molded to your mouth) mouth guard because if you lose your mouthguard, the staff might not let you play at all. Don't risk it! One of my biggest recommendations that people don’t think of is pack a bottle of After Sun Aloe Vera gel. You will most likely be outside all day and if you're Irish like me, she will burn. I burned so bad almost every year that it hurt to play. Putting Aloe Vera soothing gel on at night is what saved me from my sun burns. Please feel free to contact me via Facebook Messenger if you have any more questions! I have a lot more advice."  -- Claire Fallica

OTHER SUGGESTIONS: It's hot in the summer but can get cold at night -- bring a hoodie and sweatpants; bring an extra blanket. It's summer and everyone thinks SUMMER SUN but, it might rain -- a lot -- so bring a raincoat and quick-dry layers. Bring your favorite snacks and a small portable speaker (ear buds might get bothersome, or lost). Don't forget a charger (and an international plug if going overseas). Also, if you don't already use them, summer is an especially good time of year to think about adding a chamois wrap to the handle of your stick. It will help absorb sweat from your hands to give you a better grip. Chamois also helps reduce the likelihood of getting blisters on your hands from all that stickwork you'll be doing.
