Hot Summer Nights is a 2017 American neo-noir coming-of-age crime drama film written and directed by Elijah Bynum, in his directorial debut. It stars Timothe Chalamet, Maika Monroe, Alex Roe, Maia Mitchell, William Fichtner, Thomas Jane, Rachel O'Shaughnessy, and Emory Cohen. Set on Cape Cod in the summer of 1991, the plot follows Daniel Middleton, a teenage boy who becomes entangled in the drug trade.

In 1991, Daniel, an awkward teenager, is sent by his mother to spend the summer with his aunt on Cape Cod after the death of his father. He is not excited about it at first, but soon he meets Hunter Strawberry, the bad boy in town. While working at a convenience store, Hunter hurriedly asks Daniel to hide marijuana from approaching police. They later become business partners in selling drugs from a man named Dex. He provides Daniel and Hunter with the marijuana they need to facilitate their business but warns them about the fatal consequences if he gets crossed.

Hunter's younger sister McKayla is the most crushed-on girl on Cape Cod. After escaping from her boyfriend at the drive-in, McKayla asks Daniel to take her home. Although Hunter forbids him from seeing McKayla, Daniel cannot help himself. At the summer carnival, he surprisingly kisses her, resulting in a beating by McKayla's boyfriend and his friends. Daniel and McKayla soon start dating secretly. At the same time, Hunter develops a relationship with Amy, the daughter of Sergeant Frank Calhoun, who becomes suspicious about his daughter's whereabouts.

Camp Sacajawea is a summer camp located in Lynchburg, Virginia. Girls will experience outdoor camping skills while spending lots of time in the creek, at the Dot, also known as the spash pad, and at the archery range. Girls will work on the outdoor progression patches which teach them everything from survival skills and camp cooking to traditional fire circle songs and camp games.

Cave Hill Day Camp is a summer day camp for younger Girl Scouts. It is held at Grand Caverns in Grottoes. It is a camp program designed to give girls a positive and fun experience in the great outdoors. Under the guidance of trained and enthusiastic volunteers, this camp provides a variety of Girl Scout programs like archery, crafts, games, nature study, outdoor cooking, hiking, a one-night overnight camp-out, and lots more! Our Summer Camp Leadership Training allows older girls to help at camp.

Friendly Hollow Day Camp is an in-person and virtual summer camp in Montgomery, Virginia. Girls in rising 1st through 12th grade will experience an amazing week of outdoor fun. In addition to the pure enjoyment of our natural outdoor environment, girls will play games, hike, learn outdoor skills, and learn to cook on and sing around an inviting campfire! Girls will have a BLAST learning new outdoor skills with new friends and catching up with old friends!

Sugar Hollow Day Camp is a camp located in Crozet, Virginia with year round events. Their summer camp traditions include wading in the creek, enjoying nature, tie-dye camp shirts, hike our beautiful hills, sing around the campfire, and learn outdoor skills as we make new friends at camp. On-site activities will include archery for girls going into grades 4 through 7. In addition, the rising 7th grade Cadette unit may have one day of off-site activity, such as kayaking.

The problem is that it doesn't. Robert Mulligan's "Summer of '42" is constructed to suggest that during that summer an event happened after which the boy was never the same. But we have to be content with an adult narrator who tells us this about himself; we never do learn how the boy, as a boy, put it together for himself. The fault may lie in the movie's obsession with nostalgia. The movie isn't set up to tell a story about a boy who was young in the summer of 1942; it insists on presenting itself, instead, as an adult memory of that long-ago summer. We don't learn very much about the boy because the movie's adult point of view refuses to come to terms with him.

What we're left with are some beautifully produced and photographed notes toward a movie. Mulligan has succeeded in convincing us that his movie remembers and understands the wartime summer of 1942. He is very good, too, at trying to convince us that adolescence was somehow more innocent then. But anyone who has ever been an adolescent -- and every adult has -- will remember that it is hardly ever easy-going, in 1942 or any other year, and that although it may seem innocent when we remember it nostalgically, at the time it felt like an agonizingly prolonged fall from grace.
