The factory-installed spare tire makes SUIET longer than 20 feet - and our town limits parking to 24 hours. Today, SUIET lost 11 inches so at 19 feet, 8 inches our town treats her like a car. To celebrate we decided to upgrade SUIET to Aktiv release 1.1. We realized that this and other hacks are hard to see when the bed and the cabinet doors are installed so today we are publishing a few pictures of the new compartment on the driver-side rear section under the bed. Several of our projects are revealed in these pictures:
Picture 1 shows a top view of the new compartment before we installed the bedroom floor above it. SUIET's spare tire is now stowed forward of the driver-side wheel well. We will only touch the spare when we have a flat. Plus we have major new storage all around the wheel-well. BTW: the detachable yellow strap and ratchet can pull 3300 pounds and could pull SUIET out of trouble in a block and tackle configuration.
Picture 2 shows the same storage area looking through the back door (the image is rotated). This page's title picture shows our tent, sleeping bags, and full backpack with the rest of our camping gear packed here and ready to go. Kathy is sewing a paisley tire cover (same as Sam's 1966 VW microbus).
Bedroom's round air vent for heat and to circulate the air conditioning to the main cabin. The blue electrical box is for four USB ports.
Plumbing now has two rear valves and an internal adjustable pressure regulator. These valves support three operations:
The drill pump is no longer needed for winterization.
