Jump Start the Aktiv's Cabin Electrical System

Why Jump Start the Aktiv?

Like a car with a dead starter battery, both AGM and Ecotrek Aktivs need 12-volts to start the electrical system. Jumping will help if the batteries are dead after after the cabin was left on too long, sitting in storage too long or something is wrong with the charging system.

Do you have the expertise to safely complete this project?

This project is very similar to jump starting a car and requires the same level of expertise.

Does Hymer Approve of this Project?

No. This work is best left to your dealer. Having said that, dealers my not be immediately available and many car and Aktiv owners jump their own vehicles to quickly get going again. Sam first did this on advice from Hymer when SUIET's Balmar was missing.

Is the Project Effective and Safe?

Yes, but an error when jump starting can result in non-warranted equipment damage, personal injury and even battery explosion.

Tools

• Safety glasses
• Standard car battery jumper cable. The amperage is lower than jump starting a car so almost any jumper cable is acceptable.

Instructions

• Turn the ProMaster wheel fully left.
• Put the Promaster in park and set the emergency brake.
• Turn off engine, inverter and batteries.
• Open the hood and locate the ProMaster jumper terminal under a black plastic cap

• Put one red jumper cable clamp somewhere insulated or have someone hold it in the air
• Put on the safety glasses
• crawl under the front corner as shown and find the cabin Jumper terminal

• Attach the free red cable clamp to the cabin jumper terminal
• Crawl out from under the ProMaster
• Attach the other red cable clamp to the ProMaster jumper terminal
• Start the Promaster engine. The UHG is now charging the Aktiv's AGM battery if nothing is broken
• Caution: Both ends of the cable is now powered
• VERY carefully disconnect both red clamps from the two jumper terminals without touching either to anything conductive
• Cross your fingers. Turn on one Ecotrek and toggle it's reset
• Turn the Ecotrek off it's LED doesn't light and turn on the other EcoTrek
• Go to Checking Out the Aktiv's Charging System if neither EcoTrek lights up
• Toggle the control panel "Battery On/Off" switch
• Go to Checking Out the Aktiv's Charging System if the cabin voltage is below 12.8 volts
• The batteries now need charging.
  1. Go for a 4-hour drive OR,
  2. Pull into shore power, turn on the inverter and turn the engine off. Let the batteries charge with shore power for 24-hours.
