We know how to fix the Aktiv's defects but not all Aktiv owner are comfortable doing it themselves
SUIET HACKS’ APPEAL FOR ENTREPRENEURS TO STEP IN
The Aktiv’s three remaining systemic failures are not the fault of any one component but the failure of Hymer to complete design, integration, and test. The survey data was very valuable in giving SUIET Hacks insight into to the best EcoTrek design for Aktivists. The survey results also show that half of the group want professional help to fix their Aktivs. BTW: Sam is not going to personally fix thousands of Aktivs:-)
Aktivists are a resourceful and determined group. We’re traveling and loving our Aktivs despite Jim Hammill’s and Martin Brandt’s mismanagement and alleged malfeasance. SUIET Hacks, LLC is working with members of the “Hymer Aktiv Owners and Wannabees” Facebook group to resolve the Aktiv’s latent safety and functionality defects so we can travel worry-free. SUIET Hacks’ focus is on three systems: EcoTrek system reliability, safe installation of Inverter/Changers, safe installation of Truma’s Combi heater/boiler.
The status of the three solutions status is:
1. The procedure for repairing an Aktiv 1.0 Ecotrek will be published soon. Someone(s) needs to adapted it for Aktiv 2.0 and Loft. The procedure and parts list need to be formalized, formatted and reviewed. Pre-assembled cables would raise the installation quality and lower installation time.
2. Hymer’s TSB:2018:0001 corrects the plumbing. Dealers need a new source for Hymer’s kitted parts.
3. The procedure for making the inverter/charger installation safe is published on SUIET Hacks website. It needs to be formalized, formatted and reviewed so dealers are willing to perform it.
I’m happily retired and glad to perform product definition and engineering. Engineering system solutions for the three systems are now installed on SUIET, our Aktiv 1.0. Initial testing is completed and will continue while Kathy and I explore North America this year.
In the last year SUIET Hacks' spent $10K out of pocket to protect Aktiv owners. Our income is $0. We DO NOT want payment. We are asking other people or companies to plan and execute the final steps so all owners can have their Aktivs safe and functioning. They need to productize the technical solutions so Aktiv owners can merely print the instructions and take them a dealer, contractor or DIY.
To limit their liability, most dealers require Hymer Engineering approved instructions to perform modifications that might affect safety. Hymer Engineering is gone so owners will have to sign a waiver personally assuming all outcome liability.
SUIET Hacks doesn’t want any legal hassles. All individuals are free to use SUIET Hacks, LLC website to fix their personal Aktivs. The website is copyrighted for a few reasons:
1) We don't want other website's to copy the data for profit, screw things up and leave SUIET Hacks, LLC to blame.
2) Copied data quickly becomes dated and may be missing important changes added to the website. A revision control system is needed.
3) A lawyer advised not letting a manufacture lift SUIET Hacks designs without our written permission. We will gladly grant permission once we execute indemnification for any outcome. We have already given our data to manufactures under the condition that they take full responsibility and DON'T credit SUIET Hacks.
Give this some thought. Perhaps you or someone you know can develop and execute a plan.
The survey revealed 2/3rds of Aktivists are boondockers and depend on reliable and fully charged Ecotrek batteries. ALL factory wired and programmed Ecotrek Aktiv lithium cells are being damaged or take more than nine hours to fully charge from the UHG. Every Aktiv needs to be fixed to avoid lithium cell failure. Note: a different brand of lithium battery will perform no better, perhaps worse.
Aktivists turn the inverter ON when using shore power or need 120 VAC. Almost all Aktivists turn the inverter off as soon as its not needed. SUIET Hacks assumes the six Aktiv owner that voted NO can learn to do that too. This greatly simplifies the design of the EcoTrek fix. SUIET Hacks will recommend the following, “Always turn ON and reset an EcoTrek battery when turning ON the Inverter. Turn the inverter OFF when not needed.”
