In Imloul, Morocco, the Green School is being expanded to accommodate the growing number of children and address the shortage of adequate classrooms for primary education. The two existing concrete classrooms will be replaced by three new classrooms of at least 25 m², designed to provide greater comfort and respond better to the local climate. The new buildings will be constructed using local and sustainable materials such as earth/adobe bricks, natural stone, timber and earth plaster. The project also includes new sheltered outdoor spaces, pathways and landscaping, creating stronger connections between the different buildings and activities across the school grounds.
As in the first phase, the local community is at the heart of the project. Local craftspeople, village representatives, teachers and parents will be actively involved in the design and construction. The collaboration established in 2020 has built valuable experience in construction, maintenance and working with natural materials. The community itself has expressed a strong desire for this expansion and is ready to continue the participatory development of the Green School.
