Since 2019, when the Supra was first announced, buyers and fans have pleaded for a manual option for the Toyota sports coupe, Toyota finally delivered.
Co-engineered with BMW, Toyota unveiled the 2020 GR Supra in January of 2020, with the strong history of this model, coming back 17 years later, some might say that Toyota had very large shoes to fill.
Luckily for Toyota, journalists have loved this car for the most part, Motortrend even cited it as a 2020 “Car of the Year” finalist. A rear-drive sports coupe experience is getting harder and harder to find in America, likewise, this model has sold very well for Toyota.
Ever since Toyota’s announcement, car enthusiasts have been begging for a manual transmission option, yet another thing becoming harder to find in America. Most enthusiast cars sold today come with a manual transmission option, and considering the heritage of the Supra, many fans found the lack of one rather odd.
Finally, on April 28th, 2022, Toyota put a press release out, detailing that the manual transmission option will come for the 2023 GR Supra. It will be limited to the 3.0-liter option, and include a revamped suspension tuning setup.
For 2023, the Supra will also be available in the A91-MT Edition, this model will be limited to a mere 500 units, with two exclusive paint colors and a Cognac leather interior. All 2023 GR Supras will come with a 1-year membership to the National Auto Sport Association.
