The administrator said she locked down the campus and could be heard telling the student to put the gun on the ground. When officers arrived minutes later, they observed the administrator in the doorway of her office talking with the student. She told police the student put the gun down on the floor at his feet and that he was sitting on her couch.

Mesquite Police released edited videos recorded by closed-circuit television cameras inside the school along with body cameras worn by officers. In those recordings, officers can be heard talking to the student.

While attempting to talk to the student, police said the boy could be seen on both CCTV and body camera video reaching down to pick up the gun. It was then that Ricketts said one of the officers fired and three shots can be heard in the video.

Ricketts confirmed the three officers fired 19 times in the incident and that the student's leg was injured in the shooting. The student was briefly hospitalized before being medically released the same day.

Police previously said the teenager never fired his weapon. In the video released Tuesday, Mesquite Police showed a photo of a Rossi .38 Special handgun they said was recovered from the administrator's office along with five rounds. Ricketts said detectives have determined where the student got the gun, but at this time no charges against anyone else are expected to be filed.

"The professionalism and courage shown by our administrators and the responding officers under such intense circumstances were nothing short of exemplary," said Pandey. "Their quick thinking and decisive actions ensured the safety of all our students and staff, demonstrating the effectiveness of our emergency response protocols. This incident tested our preparedness, and I am proud to say that our school community responded with remarkable calm and resilience."

The names of the officers involved in the shooting are being withheld. Mesquite Police said one of the officers is an 8-year veteran, another is a 5-year veteran, and the third is a recent transfer to the department with 5 years of policing experience.

The Self-Reported Student Academic Record (SSAR) is a self-reported student academic record that allows students to self-report their high school courses and grades to Florida State University, rather than having school counselors send transcripts for each student. All students attending a U.S. based school are required to complete the SSAR.

Please record all current and scheduled senior year coursework on the SSAR. Since we encourage applicants to apply early in their senior year, you should enter the grades for your senior coursework as "In Progress" if you have not yet earned a final grade.

To make the update, navigate to your senior year courses on the SSAR and select "Add Course." Add courses with the same values as the original courses but set the new Course Length to "Semester." Add your grade to the first semester and leave the second semester set to "In Progress." Select "Add Course" to complete.

Once the new course is added, delete the original Full Year course by checking the box on the course that was replaced and clicking the "Remove Selected" button. Repeat this for all senior year courses with first semester grades updated.

SSAR is a self-reported student academic record that lists all courses and associated grades that have been attempted, or will be attempted, for high school and/or college credit. Since accuracy is critical, you must have a copy of your high school transcript available to use as a reference when you create your SSAR. Be sure to indicate any courses taken through an online school.

All first-year applicants (excluding the exceptions) must complete the SSAR. If you are unable to complete the SSAR, you must contact the Office of Admissions at admissions@fsu.edu or call 850.644.6200.

If your schedule changes, you must immediately update your SSAR. To make changes to the SSAR, simply log in to the SSAR website with the email address and password used to create your original SSAR. Additionally, if you are an accepted student considering a senior schedule changes please contact the admissions office before making a schedule change since it may negatively impact your acceptance to the university.

All students who are offered admission or deferred must update the SSAR with first semester grades when those grades become available. You will log in to the SSAR website with the email address and password used to create your original SSAR and enter your first semester (mid-year) grades.

All admitted students are required to update the SSAR with their final senior grades. You will log in to the SSAR website with the email address and password used to create your original SSAR. All admitted students who choose to enroll at Florida State are also required to submit final official high school and college dual enrollment transcripts, so that the grades entered on their SSAR can be verified.

The High School New School application is open now in MySchools. The Bard High School Early College Brooklyn (19K965) is a new school opening in the Fall 2024. Current 8th and 10th grade students can submit their application and additional materials in MySchools or through their school counselors. The application deadline has been extended to May 2nd and offers will be available before the end of the school year.

During the application period, all of the following students are welcome to apply: Current public district and charter school students, private or parochial school students, students with disabilities, students with accessibility needs, students learning English, students from immigrant families, students in temporary housing, LGBTQ and gender nonconforming students, and students with children.
