A WALKING TOUR OF HiSTORICAL LANDMARKS IN ST. THOMAS, oNTARIO

Welcome to our landing page, where you can download a PDF map of the tour, audio clips of each landmark, and children's activities to compliment your walk.

We hope you enjoy learning more about St. Thomas!

About the Tour:

Throughout the tour of historical landmarks in St. Thomas, you will explore local history and heritage by visiting various buildings, monuments, and murals. Some of the locations may be more or less familiar to you, but we are confident that everyone will learning something new!

The tour itself is a counterclockwise loop beginning at the Elgin Military Museum (Landmark #1), but feel free to start at any landmark and travel in any direction you desire.

Although the full loop is approximately 3.8km (about 1.5 hours), there is a detour that can be taken if you would like to shorten the loop into two smaller loops.

About Us:

This tour was created by Colette Benko, Jiya Hai, Natalie Pallisco, and Irina Petrovic, four senior students at Western University (London, ON) in the Scholar's Electives Program.

In partnership with the STEAM Education Centre (St. Thomas, ON), we spent a part of their academic year creating a walking tour to highlight some of the landmarks that make St. Thomas so exciting.

Acknowledgements:

We would like to sincerely thank Denise and Fred at the STEAM Education Centre for their continued support. They provided us with insights about creating walking tours, connected us with resources related to St. Thomas's history, took strolls through St. Thomas to see if we were missing any landmarks, and offered guidance related to the written and audio scripts. Thank you to the Elgin County Archives for allowing us to access their resources and include some of their photos in our materials. As well, thank you to Railway City Tourism and the Estate of Donna Bushell for their continued support of this project. Finally, thank you to St Thomas resident, Atrus Fisher for originally proposing this project to Denise and Fred.
