Minutes of the STRS Ohio Retirement Board
The State Teachers Retirement Board meets monthly (with the exception of January and July) at the STRS Ohio offices in Columbus. Meetings are open to the public. While the Retirement Board generally meets on the third Thursday and Friday of the month, the meeting dates are subject to change. Additional meetings may also be added. Board voted to reduce retirement eligibility requirements for a three-year period. Beginning June 1, 2025, STRS members will be eligible to retire with 33 years of service at any age (down from 34 years of service currently). Additionally, members will be eligible for early retirement, with reduced benefits, with 28 years of service. These rules will be in place through July 2027.
Board voted to pay a “supplemental benefit payment” to system retirees in December.
Wade Steen regains his seat on the Board.
The current retirement eligibility rule requiring 34 years of service for an unreduced retirement has been made permanent. The minimum requirement for unreduced benefits was previously scheduled to increase to 35 years of service in August 2028. Eligibility for a reduced retirement benefit has been lowered from 30 years of service to 29 years of service. The current eligibility for reduced retirement at age 60 with 5 years of service remains the same.

Board approved a 1% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for fiscal year 2024. Eligible retirees will receive an increase of 1% to their base retirement benefit on the anniversary of their retirement date. Retirees are eligible for COLA if they have been retired for five years or more.
STRS Board voted to extend the ability to retire after 34 years of service at any age and receive unreduced benefits. The years of service needed was scheduled to increase to 35 in August of this year. Eligibility at 34 years of service was extended for five years and will now be in effect until July 31, 2028.

Board approved a one-time, 3% cost of living adjustment (COLA) for eligible retirees starting July 1.
