Stress is 90 years old: From the first paper of Hans Selye (Nature, 1936)
This school offers a comprehensive, interdisciplinary exploration of stress from its historical roots to its clinical relevance. Across four days, leading experts delve into neuroendocrine pathways—including CRH, urocortins, vasopressin, and aldosterone—highlighting their roles in acute and chronic stress and pain as stressors. A dedicated focus on the gut-brain axis and the microbiome underscores emerging biomarkers and stress assessment techniques in both animal and human models. Translational themes bridge basic mechanisms with clinical conditions such as PTSD, depression, and cardiovascular and reproductive disorders. Through lectures, round tables, and interactive sessions, the school fosters an integrative perspective "from bench to bedside," enhancing understanding of stress across systems and species. The Summer School serves as a dynamic platform for scientific exchange and capacity building in stress-related research.
