SteamPulse requests a strictly minimal set of permissions:
A. "storage"
• Why it is used: Allows the extension to remember your customized settings (for instance, whether you prefer the player count widget enabled, or whether you want to skip age-gate verification) across browser sessions.
• What data is saved: Simple boolean configuration keys (e.g., {"showPlayerStats": true, "autoAgeGate": true}). No personal information or browsing logs are stored.
B. Host Permission: "https://store.steampowered.com/*"
• Why it is used: Enables the content script to run on Steam Store product pages to:
1. Inject the SteamDB Lowest Recorded Price badge into the purchase container.
2. Display the live concurrent player count widget and 24h peak links.
3. Inject direct navigation buttons (SteamDB, PCGamingWiki, ProtonDB).
4. Automatically bypass mature content birth-date verification forms.
C. Host Permission: "https://steamcommunity.com/*"
• Why it is used: Enables the content script to run on Steam Community pages to:
1. Instantly skip the intermediary "Leaving Steam" link filter warning and redirect directly to the external destination URL you clicked.
2. Automatically pre-check the mandatory "Steam Subscriber Agreement" checkbox on Community Market buy/sell modals and trade dialogs.

• Why it is used: Adds a convenient "Open in Steam Client" quick-action button on SteamDB app pages for direct launching.

3. ARE ALL THESE PERMISSIONS STRICTLY NECESSARY?

YES, every permission requested is strictly necessary and carefully scoped:
1. Narrow Domain Scoping instead of Broad Access:
Instead of asking for broad host permissions like "<all_urls>" or "*://*/*" (which would allow an extension to inspect every website you visit), SteamPulse strictly limits host permissions to only the 3 specific domains it enhances: store.steampowered.com, steamcommunity.com, and steamdb.info.
2. No Dangerous or Sensitive APIs:
• We DO NOT request the "cookies" permission.
• We DO NOT request the "webRequest" or "declarativeNetRequest" permissions.
• We DO NOT request the "tabs" permission.
• We DO NOT request access to passwords, payment details, or session tokens.
3. Complete User Control:
If you do not want a specific feature active (for example, if you prefer entering your birth year manually), you can turn it off instantly inside the popup settings.

4. THIRD-PARTY APIs AND DESTINATIONS

• Steam Web API (ISteamUserStats): To retrieve current player counts, the extension queries Valve's official, public, unauthenticated endpoint (ISteamUserStats/GetNumberOfCurrentPlayers). This request contains only the public AppID of the game and does not transmit any user identifier.
• External Links: When you click links provided in the quick action bar (such as SteamDB, PCGamingWiki, or ProtonDB), you will be directed to those respective public websites, which operate under their own independent privacy policies.
