PRIVACY POLICY - STEAM INVENTORY PRO
================================================================================
Last Updated: October 18, 2026
At Steam Inventory Pro, we believe in radical transparency, uncompromising privacy, and the fundamental principle of data minimization. We built Steam Inventory Pro to enhance your Steam trading and inventory management experience without compromising your personal security or digital safety.
This Privacy Policy explains in clear, plain language what data is handled, why specific permissions are requested, and why excessive permissions from older extensions are strictly avoided.
1. SUMMARY OF CORE PRIVACY PRINCIPLES
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• ZERO Personal Data Collection: We do not collect, store, transmit, or sell your name, email, IP address, Steam credentials, or browsing history.
• ZERO External Tracking: Steam Inventory Pro includes NO third-party trackers, analytics scripts, telemetry collectors, or advertising libraries.
• 100% Client-Side Operation: All market price calculations, inventory valuations, undercut logic, and currency conversions run locally in your own browser.
• Zero Account Hijacking Risk: We never touch, read, or request your Steam login passwords, authenticator codes, or API keys.
2. WHAT PERMISSIONS ARE REQUESTED & WHY THEY ARE NEEDED
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Steam Inventory Pro only requests the absolute minimum permissions strictly necessary to deliver its core functionality:
a) "storage"
• Purpose: Used solely to save your personal preferences locally in your Chrome browser.
• What is stored: Your preferred currency selection (e.g., USD, EUR, PLN), your interface toggles (such as turning price badges on or off), your preferred undercut amount (e.g., $0.01), and a local cache of your visible item counts and totals.
• Location: All stored data stays 100% inside your local Chrome profile and is never sent to any external server.
b) "host_permissions" (*://steamcommunity.com/* and *://*.steampowered.com/*)
• Purpose: Allows the extension's content script to inject UI enhancements exclusively on official Steam website pages.
• What it does: Displays the inventory valuation header bar, attaches live price badges to your inventory item cards, powers the quick-sell overlay, and shows the trade offer balancer.
• Scope: The extension is strictly sandboxed to official Steam domains and has zero access to any other website you visit.
3. ARE ALL THE PERMISSIONS FROM OLDER EXTENSIONS REALLY NEEDED?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The short answer is: ABSOLUTELY NOT.
Many users have asked why older extensions (like the original Steam Inventory Helper) requested dozens of extensive permissions and whether all of those permissions were genuinely necessary. Here is an honest, straightforward breakdown of why Steam Inventory Pro deliberately avoids those intrusive permissions:
• Did we need "<all_urls>" or broad web access?
NO. Older extensions often requested permission to read every website you browse on the internet ("<all_urls>") under the premise of supporting third-party trading sites. This posed massive privacy risks and triggered severe warnings in Chrome. Steam Inventory Pro strictly confines its scope to official Steam websites (*://steamcommunity.com/* and *://*.steampowered.com/*). We will never ask to monitor your general web browsing.
• Did we need the "cookies" permission?
NO. Some legacy extensions requested full access to your browser cookies to grab session tokens. Steam Inventory Pro never requests or touches your cookies. Because our content script operates directly on steamcommunity.com, any action you perform naturally uses your active browser session without the extension needing to inspect sensitive auth tokens.
• Did we need the "management" permission?
NO. Extensions that request "management" can see every other extension you have installed in your browser. We respect your privacy and have zero need or desire to monitor what other software you run.
• Did we need "declarativeNetRequest" or "webRequest"?
NO. Intercepting and rerouting low-level network packets is unnecessary for standard inventory valuation and trading calculations. DOM manipulation within the page is cleaner, safer, and does not interfere with your network traffic.
By stripping out all bloat, Steam Inventory Pro delivers lightning-fast performance, rock-solid security, and complete peace of mind.
4. DATA RETENTION & SHARING
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since Steam Inventory Pro does not collect or transmit any user data:
• We have no databases holding user records.
• We do not share, monetize, or disclose any user data to third parties, advertisers, or data brokers.
• Uninstalling the extension automatically removes all locally stored preferences from your browser.
5. USER CONTROLS & CHOICES
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You maintain complete control over the extension at all times:
• You can toggle individual features (price badges, trade balancer, quick sell) on or off at any moment in the popup.
• You can clear cached data anytime via the popup's refresh button or by clearing your browser's extension storage.
• You can uninstall the extension with a single click from the Chrome extension manager (chrome://extensions).
