I have a lovely pair wide screen monitors with 1080p resolution. However, when recording software training courses for Pluralsight, we are asked to use a resolution of 1280720 so that text and code are legible across a variety of devices and sizes.

Like many of us who are now creating content at home (although I am not streaming on twitch like many of my friends) I recently added an Elgato Stream Deck controller to my toolkit, along with some key lights, too! I use the stream deck to control the lights while recording video that requires that I be in it.

I got the mk2 about a month ago and it has been working perfectly fine. But for some reason, all of a sudden the entire screen is black. It seems like the screen still works because the brightness can be adjusted and I can see it changing on the device, but it wont display any of the icons. All of the buttons still work and do what I have them programmed to, its just the screen that wont display anything. I have reinstalled the software, checked it for an update, checked the stream deck for a firmware update, updated all possible drivers on my PC, tried every single USB port on my computer, tried using a different USB-C cable, even tried plugging it into another computer, nothing seems to work. Any suggestions on a possible fix or do I replace it?

A few months back I won a stream deck for my home office makeover that I have covered a few times here, I am not a streamer but anything that can automate and orchestrate my life to be easy is a win. This is what I have been doing with the stream deck whilst also checking out StreamLabs OBS and OBS for actual streaming content. I have buttons setup for zoom meetings, my Elgato Key Light Airs, some key web sites and tools I use daily and more than once and now this, which is related to screen resolution. If you want to see more of that setup then you can find more here.

Keeping the stream deck option in the back of my head I had to find a program or a way in which to change between the full resolution and something more viewable. The best one I found was from 12noon called Display Changer, simple stuff.

After messing around in the command line for a bit with some settings I found that the following two commands were the settings I would like to flip between. The first one is the recommended resolution for the monitor and the second is the more viewable option when I am sharing my screen.

Having one screen per key increases both hardware and software complexity! The Stream Deck is actually just one big LCD screen, with a (layered?) flex on top (hollowed where the buttons are). When the plastic button is depressed, it makes contact with the flex, which ends up firing the corresponding key event.

Similar to _deck_xl_mirror_issue/ my StreamdeckXL screen just became mirrored. I was streaming on Twitch using Streamlabs, and playing Rocket League using an Xbox controller. There is no hotkey combination that I knowingly pressed to get it like this. Any suggestions? Haven't been able to find anything with my searches.

I wrote a simple video player app that uses Stream Deck to switch between clips, so, very basic stuff. What I would like to know, is it possible to output f.e video directly to those buttons? More precisely, to have 15 of them as individual screens or one composed of 5x3 buttons that form screen?

Because when I change icon, or type text, I see it updating in real-time on device, so it crossed my mind that it can be used as some sort of display device apart from controlling content on computer, but, obviously, Stream Deck is not appearing in display settings. I am using PC, with Windows 10.

The reason I ask is because while it makes perfect sense for the stream deck to sleep whenever the computer turns to the screensaver - there are many times where I wish I could run certain commands without having to wake/log in - this is mostly for stuff such as light controls with hue, as well as certain home scripts I've built.

Additionally, I think even better might be the option to control the behaviour of the stream deck when the system enters sleep/screen saver. Perhaps there could be a way to show a different deck when things go to sleep?

From what I understand, the sleep settings for the Streamdeck are controlled within the Streamdeck software, not SoundFlow. I find sleep settings for the Streamdeck to be fairly erratic. Sometimes they follow the expected Streamdeck settings and then sometimes the Streamdeck stays awake for days and days.

So I've had my stream deck for about a week now and I've just noticed that all of my screens have image burn in on them. It wouldn't be much of an issue if it weren't for the fact that when I switch to a folder, all the previous icons are stuck on top of the other ones in the folder.

My guess is they thought most normal people would set their pc to sleep after a while so the images wouldn't burn in, however my pc needs to be on 24/7 so the stream deck can't turn off automatically unless I physically unplug it which is kind of a pain with my set up.

am i the only one who gets blue screens with the stream deck? i started getting blue screens when i first got the stream deck and i thought it was something else causing it until i stopped using the stream deck.

Is it possible to have a button on the streamdeck display a certain part of my screen and when pressed, activate a keybind? Useful for games like they are billions and age of darkness final stand. Each has a small 3x5 area for actions.

I've updated the firmware and software numerous times. The only temporary fix I have for it is to unplug the stream deck and leave it off for a few days. When I plug it back in, it looks normal for about 1-2 hours then it goes back to the washed white (see attachment).

For some reason, it doesn't want to work with the find image once it's on the second screen but as all my projects have the main Tracks window full screen on the top screen (the connected HD monitor) I have set it as a mouse click at an absolute position and it's working perfectly.

If you want to run a dual-display setup with your dock, you must switch the Steam Deck to Desktop mode. We highly recommend connecting a keyboard and mouse for PC-like navigation. It makes setting up two screens much easier. Here's how to do it.

Valve announced two new Deck models to be available for purchase in November 2023, both with OLED screens, extended battery capacity, and improved cooling features, but otherwise no changes to internal components. These models replace two of the existing models.[11] Hardware designers for Valve stated that they would have wanted to include OLED screens for the original launch models, but at the time, OLED screens of sufficient size and quality did not yet exist on the market, and they would have had to delay released by 12 to 18 months if they went that route.[12] Alongside the announcement of the OLED models, Valve stated they are working towards a Steam Deck 2 with overall system improvements including the CPU and GPU chips, but these systems will likely not be ready for two to three years.[13]

The Deck's main unit is designed for handheld use. It includes a 7-inch (180 mm) touchscreen LCD display with a 1280800 pixel resolution with a fixed 60 Hz refresh rate; games are configured to use vertical synchronization where possible.[19] The unit's input set features two thumbsticks, a directional pad, ABXY buttons, two shoulder buttons on each side of the unit, four additional buttons on the rear of the unit, as well as two trackpads under each thumbstick.[4][15] The thumbsticks and trackpads use capacitive sensing, and the unit further includes a gyroscope to allow for more specialized controls on the handheld mode.[15] The unit also includes haptic feedback.[16]

The Deck supports Bluetooth connectivity for input devices, including common game controllers, and includes integrated WiFi network support to meet IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac standards,[16][20] stereo sound out via a digital signal processor, an integrated microphone and a headphone jack,[16] a 40 watt-hour battery, which Valve estimates that for "lighter use cases like game streaming, smaller 2D games, or web browsing" can last between seven and eight hours.[4] Valve also estimated that by keeping frame rates to around 30 frames per second (FPS) more intensive games such as Portal 2 could be played for five to six hours.[20] The system's software includes an optional FPS limiter that balance a game's performance to optimize battery life.[19] At release, Steam Decks were only manufactured in a black casing to reduce the complexity of production, though Valve stated that they have considered introducing other case colors or themes in the future.[21] Valve partnered with iFixit to provide replacement parts for users.[22]

Two new models were released on November 16, 2023.[26] These models, with 512 GB and 1 TB of internal storage come in to replace the previous top of the line LCD variant. The 64 GB and 512 GB original units are now discontinued, with the 256 GB LCD version becoming the new base model. The new model upgrades include a larger 7.4 inches (19 cm) OLED 90 Hz display, WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 support, a battery with an estimated 25% improvement in capacity, and improved cooling.[11][27] The OLED deck includes a revised APU based on 6 nm processor production named Sephiroth, also based on the Final Fantasy VII character.[28]

The Steam client on the Deck features a revised interface and functions different from the desktop client. Unlike Steam's Big Picture mode which was designed for use on television screens, which was treated as a separate software branch within Valve, the Deck version of the Steam client stays consistent with the desktop version, adding functions and interface elements to make navigating through Steam easier with controller input, and indicators typical for portable systems such as battery life and wireless connectivity.[39] Valve replaced the previous Big Picture mode in Steam with one based on the Steam Deck user interface in February 2023.[40][41] The version of Steam on the Deck otherwise supports all other functions of Steam, including user profiles and friends lists, access to game communities, cloud saving, Steam Workshop support, and the Remote Play feature.[20][42] Remote Play also allows the Steam Deck to be used as a controller for a game running on a computer, providing additional control options beyond traditional keyboard and mouse or common controller systems.[43] The Steam software on the Deck also supports suspending a game in progress, a feature considered by Valve to be core to the Deck.[39] Otherwise, games that do not take advantage of the Steam Deck API have the handheld's controller input automatically converted for them. For example, the touch-sensitive controllers on the Deck translate input appropriately for games that typically rely on keyboard and mouse controls.[24] Valve added to Steam's current approach to cloud saving with the introduction of Dynamic Cloud Sync in January 2022. Prior cloud functionality only synchronized game saves after the user has exited a game; developers can enable Dynamic Cloud Sync to use cloud saving while the game is running, making this feature more amenable for portable use on the Steam Deck.[14][44] 17dc91bb1f
