PRIVACY POLICY

Novelz ("we", "our" or "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information the Novelz app uses, why, and who it is shared with. Novelz has no user accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
WHO THE APP IS FOR
Novelz is made for parents, families and adults who want to create stories, for example to read aloud at bedtime. Children may enjoy the stories with a parent, but the app is meant to be used by an adult. Please do not enter personal details such as full names, addresses or school names in your story ideas.
INFORMATION WE USE
1. Your story ideas
When you create a story, the idea you type or speak, plus your chosen genre, length, creativity level and language, is sent to OpenAI to write the story. For Premium users, the story title and part of the story text are also sent to OpenAI to paint the cover image.
Before your first story, the app asks your permission to send your ideas to OpenAI. Nothing is sent unless you tap "Allow". You can turn this off at any time in Settings > Share ideas with AI.
2. Voice input
If you use the microphone button, your speech is turned into text by Apple's speech recognition. Depending on your device and language, this may happen on your device or on Apple's servers, under Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not record or keep your audio.
3. Purchases
Payments are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details. We use RevenueCat to check your subscription status. RevenueCat receives a random, anonymous ID created by the app, your purchase history, and basic technical information (such as app version, operating system and App Store country). This ID is not linked to your name or email.
4. Information stored only on your device
Your stories, cover images, settings, onboarding answers and free story credits are stored only on your device. We do not upload or keep copies of your stories on our servers.
THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
- OpenAI: writes stories and paints covers from your ideas. Under OpenAI's API data policy, data sent through its API is not used to train its models by default and may be kept for up to 30 days to detect abuse. https://openai.com/policies/privacy-policy
- AIProxy: a secure relay that passes requests from the app to OpenAI and protects our service key. It may process technical data such as your IP address and an Apple DeviceCheck token to prevent misuse. It does not keep your story ideas.
- RevenueCat: manages subscriptions. https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy
- Apple: App Store payments and speech recognition. https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
We do not sell your information or share it for advertising.
HOW WE USE INFORMATION
- To write your stories and create cover images
- To turn your voice into text when you use the microphone
- To provide Premium features and restore purchases
- To keep the app working properly
YOUR CHOICES AND RIGHTS
- Turn off "Share ideas with AI" in Settings at any time. The app will ask again before your next story.
- Delete any story in the app at any time.
- Deleting the app removes all stories and settings stored on your device.
- Manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID settings.
- Depending on where you live (for example under GDPR or CCPA), you may have the right to access or delete your data. Since we do not keep your stories or ideas, most of your data is only on your device. For data held by OpenAI, AIProxy or RevenueCat, contact us and we will help with your request.
CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
Novelz is meant for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has entered personal information in a story idea, contact us and we will help remove it where possible.
DATA SECURITY
All data sent from the app is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). No method of sending or storing data is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.
DATA RETENTION
Stories and settings stay on your device until you delete them or the app. Data held by third-party services is kept according to their own policies, as described above.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version here and update the "Last Updated" date.
