Stopdown for iOS — last updated 1 September 2026
This policy explains what happens to data when you use the app. The short version: Stopdown has no account and no advertising, every calculation runs on your device, and the app sends anonymous usage statistics that you can switch off in Settings.
What Stopdown collects
Anonymous usage statistics, and nothing else. There is no sign-in, no user profile and no advertising code. With Share anonymous usage on — it is in Settings, on by default — the app reports how far people get through it:
— which onboarding step was shown;
— whether onboarding was finished, and whether a sensor was chosen;
— that the Stopdown Pro offer was shown, and which feature led to it;
— that a purchase was completed or restored;
— that the app was installed or updated, and when it is opened and put in the background, so we can tell whether people come back.
Each report carries only technical context: whether Pro is unlocked, which variant of an interface experiment your installation was assigned to, and whether the build came from the App Store or from testing. Our analytics provider also records the app version, iOS version, device model, coarse locale and a random identifier generated on your device, which groups reports from the same installation. The connection IP address is not stored and is not used to work out where you are.
Stopdown does not report your calculations or any value you enter, your selected camera, your location, the advertising identifier (IDFA), screen recordings, or anything that identifies you. The data is not used for advertising, not used to track you across other apps or websites, and not sold or shared for anyone else's purposes.
Switch Share anonymous usage off and the app sends nothing at all. Apart from these reports, the only network traffic Stopdown causes is Apple's own — checking whether you own the Stopdown Pro purchase — plus the page that opens in Safari or Mail when you tap a link in Settings.
Who processes the statistics
PostHog processes them on our behalf, on servers in the European Union, and keeps them for up to 12 months. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in improving the app; the switch in Settings is how you object.
What is stored on your device
Your units, theme, selected camera, blur limit, saved presets and experiment variant are kept in Stopdown's own storage on your device. This data never leaves the device through Stopdown. It is included in your device backup, and if that backup is in iCloud, Apple's privacy policy covers the copy. Deleting the app deletes the data.
Purchases
Stopdown Pro is sold by Apple through the App Store. Stopdown asks the App Store whether your Apple Account owns the purchase and stores nothing else. Your payment details, name and address never reach us. Apple's privacy policy covers the transaction.
What Apple reports to us
Apple gives every developer aggregated figures about their app — downloads, sales totals, crash counts — and, if you have chosen to share diagnostics with developers, anonymised crash reports. None of it identifies you or your device.
If you write to us
We see the address you write from, your message, and the app version, iOS version and device model that the support draft fills in. We use it to answer you and for nothing else: no mailing list, no sharing, no sale. The correspondence stays in our Google-hosted mailbox; ask us to delete it and we will.
Children
Stopdown is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. The usage statistics are anonymous and are not used to build a profile of anyone, at any age.
Your rights
The usage statistics are anonymous, so we normally cannot connect them to a person: there is no profile of you to access, correct or export. You can stop the collection at any time with the switch in Settings, and deleting the app removes everything stored on your device. Mail you have sent us we delete on request; if you want a deletion request applied to the statistics, tell us the date and approximate time you used the app and we will do what we can.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and the current version is always at this address.
