Richard Owen – Past President 2013 / 2014
Richard was born and raised in Tawa, together with a twin brother and a younger sister. He subsequently attended Wellington College and after leaving school he was employed briefly in an oil company, undertook Compulsory Military Training as a naval rating, before finally choosing a career in education.“My early teaching positions were mainly in rural schools, however I ended my career at schools situated around Nelson. I married and family responsibilities followed, while my extracurricular interests included athletics and harriers, tramping, photography and music. On retirement, new interests emerge, interspersed with increasingly frequent visits to families; now living in Australia. I enjoyed cycling and home renovation and significantly, I became a member of the Stoke – Tahunanui Men’s Club and I served as president across 2013 and 2014. A fond memory, and personal highlight during that time in the club, was the passing of my motion that accorded member’s partners the right to participate in speakers presentations during our meetings a now commonplace practice! For me this journey has been long and fruitful: A quarter century of shared experiences, camaraderie and friendships.Long may our club continue to prosper”.Richard Owen – Past President 2013 / 2014
