Ian Christison - President in 2016 and 2017

Introducing Ian Christison who is married to Tricia. They have 2 adult children and 3 grandchildren.Ian's interests include watching most sports with a special love of going fishing and boating. He takes over from here:
"My working career started in the Post Office Savings Bank 1962. Eighteen years later I left to undertake some overseas travel. On my return from overseas I held various management positions in private companies. In 1990 Tricia and I took over the Shell service station franchise in Halifax street. Four years later we took over Shell Stoke and then Shell Rutherford. I enjoy working with people in a team environment so having a big team of staff gave us a lot of pleasureI was involved with Nelson West Rotary for 18 years and I have enjoyed volunteering for a number of sporting organisations. My time with Stoke Tahunanui men's club started in 2009  and it was not long before I was asked to join the committee. As club president for the  2016 and 2017 years we faced two thorny issues. The first being the demise of The Suburban Club and having to find a new meeting venue. After an extensive search we settled on The Reformed Church. This has proved to be an excellent venue. In 2014 a number of NZ clubs broke away from Probus Australia. The fallout and threat of legal proceedings from this action took up a lot of committee time. The talent and skills of  the members never ceases to amaze me and one of the highlights of my time as president has been the high level of enjoyment and camaraderie within the club. Petanque, which I coordinated, was added to the list of activities / social events . This has proven highly successful with much banter and laughter every time we play."
