First Principles by Thomas Ricks & Meditations notebook 6
Tuesday June 23rd, 6:30 PM
Panera Bread Renton Landing
921 N 10th St Ste E

For June we will be reviewing Thomas E. Ricks book "First Principles", which explores how Roman and Greek philosophy and culture influenced the first four presidents and the thinkers of the enlightenment that shaped the creation of the new Republic. This book also details the college educations of Adams, Jefferson and Madison, highlighting the importance of the timeless lessons from the ancient philosophers.
We will also be reviewing Notebook 6 of the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius. This notebook has many entries on the inter-connectedness of the universe and the proper function of a person in the cosmology of Humans. It also contains some of my favorite quotable entries, such as in entry 2 where Marcus states that so long as I am acting appropriately, my present physical condition is irrelevant.
