"A community-based, family-centered neighborhood gathering place where community residents can go for family support, information, and services. The Family Success Center’s goal is to enrich the lives of children and adults by making families stronger and empowering them to succeed.
New Day Family Success Center is a "one-stop" shop that serves families in a safe and supportive home-like environment and offers programs and workshops designed to strengthen the family unit, build relationships, enrich the lives of community members, and make families and the neighborhood stronger. Our Family Success Center provides wrap-around resources and support services to strengthen families and communities."
-New Day Family Success Center
This project collaborates with the New Day Family Success Center to run multiple opportunities for the volunteers via Zoom such as:
Reading to children
Leading peace wreathes project
Leading borax crystal project
Volunteers will be reading "Martin's Big Words: The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr" to children via Zoom on the day of the event to teach the kids about some of his great works.
Volunteers will be leading two projects virtually on the day of the event.
1) Peace Wreaths - which will allow the participants to know that people matter regardless of the color of their skin.
2) STEAM Borax Crystals - will teach some of the virtues that were valued by MLK, two of them being patience and love. Since the crystals take a couple of days to grow it will show the participants that one spark of kindness can continue to grow exponentially, as well as the patience to allow it to grow.
Project submission of volunteers is NOT required for this event since volunteers will be actively leading youth throughout the event.
Reliable internet access
Access to Zoom
Volunteers serving virtually must provide their own lunch for the event
*Though this is a virtual event, the New Day Family Success Center is looking for volunteers to stop by the center Tuesday and/or Thursday January 26th & 28th before the event to assemble the craft bags that participants can take home.
