St. Luke's Refugee ministry
Welcoming the Abdallah Family!
Welcome to the refugee ministry of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Evanston, Illinois. Here you will find ways to serve Chicagoland's refugee community, the latest news and events related to refugees, and resources where you can learn more about refugees and the services available to them in our area.
As of February 2017, we partnered with World Relief Chicago as a Good Neighbor Team. Our first action was a collection drive to assemble a Good Neighbor Kit of essential items for a newly arrived refugee family in Chicago. Please click here to see what we collected. At this point we are not collecting items.
In September 2017 we were asked to become good neighbors to the Abdallah Family from the Darfur region of Sudan. They arrived in the States in Nov. 2016 from a refugee camp in Kenya during a time when unusually large numbers of refugees were arriving and World Relief resources were stretched. The family has been remarkably resourceful, but needed some further help in adjusting to their new environment.
