SHS Bee Project
Nam Bonum Alveare
The Hive
We are the Stirling High School Bee Project. We have two bee hives up at Stirling Castle that a small group of us attend to nearly every week. We aim to help bees and try to improve our environment, whilst also selling honey to make money for our school. We are a very busy group (no pun intended) that help around the school a lot.
Meet The Team
Since the beginning, RMPS Teacher, Mr T Ambrose has run the SHS Bee Project. As of 2021 English Teacher, Mr A Weir joined to help run the project, along with a few new pupil members too.
Business & Enterprise
The skills we develop from this really separates us from most other students as we have fun learning, speaking up about problems, talking to tourists at the castle, teaching younger and older people about what we do, giving demonstrations these all come to be the top set skills - responsibility - communication - confidence - critical thinking - creativity - and decision making.
Awards
In 2020 we received a Social Enterprise Award for our work with Stirling Castle and Plan Bee. We are also working towards our Junior/Senior Bee Keeping Awards as well as an NPA in Beekeeping.
Partnerships
We are partnered with Plan Bee and Stirling Castle. We work with people from both organisations and pass on our knowledge to them. We've also previously had the Scouts up at our hives eager to learn all about our bees.
Goals & Aims
As a conservationist group we aim to do our part and help protect a much needed species. We want to educate our fellow students and teachers about bees and how they can do their bit to protect their existence.
