The SAB phenomenon appears to have first begun around the time of the earthquake and Tsunami in Japan. I believe it may have caused some sort of manufacturing issue in lens mechanisms being produced in that time frame and used to build cameras throught 2011. It appears a majority of X100's affected by SAB started with serial numbers that begin with 12, 13 or 14. The Fuji serial number works this way. The first number is the last number in the year the camera was manufactured. The second number is the fiscal quarter of the year the camera was made. An x100 that starts with 13 was made in the 3rd quarter of 2011.

Whether Fuji actually acknowledged a redesigned lens unit or simply used newly manufactured units that didn't have the earlier build issues as a replacement is a moot point. The fact is if you had a camera with SAB then Fuji replaced the malfunctioning lens unit with a new one. In most cases free of charge under warranty.

It appears that the issue was solved by end of 2011. As far as the strap lug issue is concerned. It looks like the metal used to make the lugs was softer than it should be. If you use the triangular snap rings that come with the camera for the strap the angle on the ring would wear against the lug causing them to wear through to some extent. Easy way to solve that is to use a strap that uses round snap rings or nylon cord to attach the strap to the camera.
