PropFind is a responsive web and mobile application, created as a bootcamp project, focusing on creating a simple home buying experience for the potential homebuyers.
Role: UX Designer, UI Designer
Tools: Adobe XD, Microsoft Visio
Timeline: 4+ Weeks
For this project, the challenge was to create a streamlined and responsive web application that help give users the information and tools they need to find suitable properties for any situation.
PropFind is a responsive web application that allows users to easily find real estate in their market of interest based on criteria such as their budget, property type and property features.
We wanted to form a deeper understanding of our users' goals, needs, experiences, and behaviors so one proto-persona was used throughout the design process. Our persona, Farah, influenced all major design decisions. Farah is a younger but established professional who wants a intuitive app with practical features. We stepped into the viewpoint of Farah whenever we needed to step out of ourselves and reconsider our initial ideas.
With the business goal in mind, we make sure that users are able to find real estate properties that fit their needs. We sketched a user journey map to identify how users can create an account, search for properties and save properties to their favorites. These were the three main use cases identified.
Using Adobe XD, I translated my user flows into low-fidelity wireframes. Then, I improved them by adding a few stock images and self-generated copy. At this stage, the wireframes were defined enough for some user testing. 3 user tests were performed, as defined in the parameters of the project. Feedback was collected and minor alternations were made to enhance the app before moving on to creating high-fidelity prototypes.
Once usability issues were addressed, I moved into defining the color pallet, icons, and font styles by creating 2 moodboards to draw inspiration from and ensure the visual identify is established and aligns with the brand's value and message of being “Classic and Modern”. After finalizing stylistic decisions, the final screens were created in Adobe XD.
Breakpoints were than designed for, using a responsive 4-grid system for mobile, 8-grid system for tablet and 12-grid system for desktop.
Moodboards used to inspire design decisions
Final deliverables at this stage include our persona, user flows, low-fidelity wireframes, moodboards (and style guide, not shown), high-fidelity wireframes and a prototype.
With fewer constraints, I would invest more time into user research to develop additional personas. This would help capture more use cases and could help generate ideas for new features that would help this app standout from its competition.
The focus of this bootcamp project was to develop visual design skills. With the help of guided exercises, lessons, and working with a mentor, I was able to showcase good visual spacing and hierarchy while designing an application that put to use basic UX skills as well.
