StepQuest is designed with a "Local-First & Privacy-First" architecture. This means your daily steps, distance, calories, water hydration intake, and fitness records remain strictly stored on your local device and are never uploaded, shared, or stored on our external servers.

2. Information We Collect

To provide accurate real-time step counting, health analytics, and gamified achievements, StepQuest processes the following local data:

- Physical Activity & Sensor Data: Step counts detected via device hardware sensors (TYPE_STEP_COUNTER / TYPE_STEP_DETECTOR) and device accelerometer.

- Health & Fitness Metrics: Real-time steps, walking distance (km/miles), active duration, calories burned (kcal), CO2 saved, and daily water hydration intake logged by you.

- User Profile Data (Optional): Gender, height, weight, and daily step goal — used strictly for calculating accurate stride lengths and calorie expenditure locally.

- App & Widget Preferences: Selected app language (out of 11 supported languages), dark/light theme mode, reminder timings, and home screen widget settings.

3. How We Use Your Data

- Accurate Step & Calorie Tracking: To calculate and display real-time physical activity statistics.

- Gamified Achievements & Badges: To evaluate milestone ranks (L1 to L7) and award trophies locally.

- Home Screen Widget: To display real-time step counts and walking distance directly on your phone's Home Screen.

- Smart Reminders & Notifications: To send timely hydration reminders, daily walking motivation, and milestone celebrations.

All computations, statistics generation, and progress tracking occur 100% locally on your device.

4. Advertising & Third-Party Services (Google AdMob)

To keep StepQuest free and accessible for everyone, we display third-party advertisements using Google AdMob (Google Play Services).

Google AdMob may collect and process certain non-personally identifiable diagnostic and advertising data in compliance with Google's Privacy Policies, such as:

- Device Identifiers: Google Advertising ID (GAID), device brand, model, OS version, and screen density.

- Network Information: IP address, general approximate location (country/city level), and network connection status (INTERNET / ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE).

- Ad Interaction Data: Ad impressions, clicks, and diagnostic logs to prevent ad fraud and serve relevant advertisements.

5. Permissions Required & Why We Need Them

To deliver seamless tracking and features, StepQuest requests the following essential Android permissions:

- ACTIVITY_RECOGNITION (Android 10+): Required to access the pedometer hardware sensor and count steps as you move.

- FOREGROUND_SERVICE & FOREGROUND_SERVICE_HEALTH (Android 14+): Required to keep step counting accurate and uninterrupted in the background 24/7, even when your screen is locked.

- POST_NOTIFICATIONS (Android 13+): Required to display the ongoing live step counter bar, hydration reminders, and milestone alerts with high priority.

- SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM & RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: Required to trigger exact daily reminders and automatically resume tracking after device reboot.

- INTERNET & ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: Required solely by the Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) SDK to load advertisements.

6. Data Storage, Retention & Security

- Strict Local Storage: All your fitness records, history logs, and profile settings are stored locally on your device using private SQLite database and encrypted SharedPreferences.

- No External Developer Database: We do not operate external cloud database servers for user data. We cannot view, monitor, or sell your personal fitness history.

7. User Control & Data Deletion

- Reset / Delete All Data: You can delete all your stored history and profile settings at any time by selecting Clear Data / Clear Storage in your Android device's App Settings or by uninstalling the app.

- Permission Revocation: You can grant or revoke any sensor or notification permission at any time via Android System Settings.

8. Children's Privacy

StepQuest is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect or solicit any personal information from children.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect new app features or regulatory requirements. Any modifications will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
