New Works : New Faces 15

Earlywork Gallery presents New Works : New Faces 15 an exhibition showcasing the work of recent art school graduates: two artists from Edith Cowan University and five from Curtin University of Technology. The artists were selected by David Forrest and Jánis Nedéla, the directors of Gallery East in consultation with the Art Schools.

Objects in Conversation is an installation consisting of disposable readymade materials and handmade artworks. This work mimics the characteristics of mass-produced objects through the process of mould-making, painting and assemblage. The objects are placed on shelves made of found wood, deliberately positioned at eye level to evoke human desire – an advertising technique used to create the impulse to buy. By emphasising the disconnection between natural systems and the general economy, Objects in Conversation encourages a reconsideration of the ordinary.
