Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: A Major Upgrade Over the Fold 6
Published: Jun 20, 2025, 1:57 PM
The highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is set to launch in July, and leaks are revealing a lot about this new device. We now have our first look at a realistic dummy model of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 next to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, and the difference is striking—the Fold 6 looks outdated in comparison.
Samsung has made significant advancements in foldable technology, with the Fold 7 being both larger and slimmer than the Fold 6. Unfolded, the Fold 7 measures just 4.5 mm thick, while the Fold 6 is 5.6 mm. For context, the Galaxy S25 Edge is 5.8 mm thick, highlighting how the Fold 7 excels in terms of slimness.
When folded, the Fold 7 is 9 mm thick, compared to 12.1 mm for the Fold 6. The main display of the Fold 7 will be around 8.2 inches, an upgrade from the 7.6 inches of the Fold 6. Samsung also promises that the Fold 7 will be the lightest Galaxy foldable yet.
The dummy unit showcases a new punch-hole camera design on the main display, replacing the under-display camera of the Fold 6. This change aims to enhance photo quality, although some may prefer the previous setup.
Interestingly, the Fold 7 shares many characteristics with the limited-release Galaxy Z Fold 6 SE, especially in display size. The Fold 7 offers slightly more screen area due to thinner bezels. The punch-hole camera first seen on the Fold 6 SE is also present on the Fold 7, with marginal improvements in thickness.
The Fold 7 will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, the same processor used in the Galaxy S25 series. For those who purchased the Fold 6 SE, the Fold 7 may not present a substantial upgrade.
Compared to rivals like the Oppo Find N5, the Fold 6 appears bulky and outdated. The Fold 7 aims to compete more effectively in the foldable market. If you value long-term software support from Samsung, the Fold 7 is an excellent choice.
For those looking for a smaller device, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 is also available, though it may feature the Exynos 2500 in some regions. Additionally, a more affordable Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is rumored to be in the works.
After years of speculation, it seems a foldable Galaxy FE will be a reality this year. Alternatively, you might want to wait for Apple’s foldable iPhone, which is expected to be priced at a premium.
