iPhone 17 Air: Weight, Thickness, and Tiny Battery Specs Leaked

The iPhone 17 Air is Apple's upcoming flagship smartphone designed to replace the Plus model. Concerns about its battery capacity have surfaced, especially with competitors like the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge featuring a small battery as well. New reports confirm these worries are justified.
A supply chain source has disclosed that the iPhone 17 Air will have a surprisingly low battery capacity of just 2,800 mAh, which is significantly less than the 3,900 mAh battery found in the Galaxy S25 Edge. Both Samsung and Apple appear willing to compromise on battery life—something users consistently request—to achieve slimmer designs.
In addition to the battery capacity, the source indicated that the iPhone 17 Air will measure 5.5 mm in thickness and weigh around 145 grams. This means the iPhone 17 Air will be slimmer than the Galaxy S25 Edge, which is 5.8 mm thick.
There are also rumors that the iPhone 17 Air might utilize a denser battery to counteract its short battery life, but this seems unlikely. More plausibly, Apple is banking on selling additional cases to extend battery life, similar to the way they promoted USB-C dongles after removing the headphone jack. However, these cases could negate the phone's main selling point—its slim profile—by adding extra thickness.
Additionally, Apple is reportedly planning to use Apple Intelligence to enhance battery life on the iPhone 17 Air. The company is training AI on data from thousands of users to create a model that optimizes app usage. However, given the mixed results of Apple Intelligence so far, it’s uncertain how effective this feature will be.
Since its release, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge has faced skepticism, with many consumers questioning its necessity. Based on what we know about the iPhone 17 Air, it seems likely that Apple’s new offering may encounter similar criticism.
