Apple has released the third developer beta of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS 15.1 Sequoia. The update brings one of the much-awaited Apple Intelligence features to the Photos app. The new AI-powered 'Clean Up' tool can identify and remove distracting objects from a photo while keeping the subject intact.

If you have an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max, and you live in the U.S., you can now install iOS 18.1 Developer Beta 3 which includes the Apple Intelligence Beta giving users an advanced preview of Apple's AI initiative. The latest iOS 18.1 Developer Beta includes a feature for the native Photos app called Clean Up which is similar to the Magic Eraser feature that Google introduced in 2021 with the Pixel 6 line.

To install any of the available iOS 18 Developer Beta 8, iOS 18.1 Developer Beta 3 (again, the latter is for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max only in the U.S.), go to Settings > General > Software Update and follow the directions

The Clean Up tool works on all images in the Photos app. To use the feature, open a photo and tap on the three-slider edit icon on the bottom in the gray bar. Then, tap on the new 'Clean Up' button. The tool will automatically detect some objects that you might want to remove from the photo. You can also manually select the object you want to remove. Once you've selected the object, the tool will remove it and fill in the empty space with matching pixels from the surrounding area.

The Clean Up tool is a great way to improve the quality of your photos. It can help you remove unwanted objects from your photos, such as people in the background, or objects that are blocking the view of your subject. The tool is still in beta, so there may be some bugs or limitations. However, it is a promising new feature that could make a big difference in the way you edit your photos.

In addition to the Clean Up tool, iOS 18.1 beta 3 also includes a number of other new features and improvements. These include:

A new Apple Music feature that allows you to share songs with friends and family.

A new Home app feature that allows you to control your smart home devices from your iPhone or iPad.

A new Messages app feature that allows you to edit and delete messages after you've sent them.

iOS 18.1 is expected to be released to the public later this year. The date that Apple will release the stable version of iOS 18 will be announced on September 9th during the Glowtime event that will introduce the iPhone 16 line, the new Apple Watch Series 10, the Apple Watch SE 3, and the Apple Watch Ultra 3. We could also see two versions of the fourth-generation AirPods with a premium variant offering Active Noise Cancelation.
