ChatGPT, one of the leading AI chatbots globally, has received another significant update, allowing users to interact with several third-party applications directly within their conversations. This announcement follows closely on the heels of OpenAI's revelation that the chatbot will soon enable users to make purchases directly in the chat interface.
Enhanced Interaction with Third-Party Apps
OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has unveiled a new Apps SDK that enables developers to create tools that seamlessly integrate into conversations with the chatbot. Initial partners for this initiative include well-known platforms such as Spotify, Canva, Zillow, Expedia, Booking.com, Coursera, and Figma.
Users can now "invoke" a specific app simply by mentioning its name, similar to how one might interact with digital assistants like Siri or Alexa. For instance, you might type, "Spotify, create a playlist..." in the chat.
Additionally, ChatGPT will automatically suggest relevant apps based on the context of the conversation. For example, if you're discussing home buying, it can bring up Zillow to help you view listings on an interactive map—all without leaving the chat.

The new system operates using the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which grants ChatGPT access to various data sources, tools, and workflows from connected applications.
Currently, this Apps SDK is available to developers in preview mode, with OpenAI planning to launch a full developer directory and monetization options later this year. More apps from DoorDash, Instacart, Uber, and AllTrails are also expected soon.
All users (Free, Go, Plus, and Pro) outside the EU can utilize this feature.
Expanding Capabilities of ChatGPT
ChatGPT is rapidly expanding its capabilities. Recently, another integration was announced, allowing users to purchase items from Etsy directly within the ChatGPT app. OpenAI appears to be positioning ChatGPT as a central hub for various activities and services.
