Apple's Foldable iPhone May Achieve a Display Breakthrough

A recent report from South Korea suggests that Apple is preparing an exciting surprise with its rumored foldable iPhone. Are crease-free displays finally on the horizon?

While Apple has yet to enter the foldable phone market, rumors about its first model have been circulating for some time. As we approach the anticipated release timeframe—expected in the second half of 2026—more concrete rumors are starting to emerge. Recently, discussions have centered on its potential display size and form factor.

A new report indicates some promising news: Apple may have figured out how to eliminate the crease in the display of its upcoming foldable iPhone. It is expected to be a book-style foldable that folds inward. According to the report, Apple might have completely removed the crease, a challenge that many foldable devices have struggled with, including Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 6, which has yet to overcome this issue.

An industry insider noted that Apple is taking a serious approach to ensure there is no crease, regardless of the cost. While some new models, like the Oppo Find N5, have significantly minimized their creases, even this ultra-thin device still has a slight crease.

If Apple manages to make the crease entirely disappear, it would be a significant achievement. Many users can adapt to a tiny crease, but it's not the most aesthetically pleasing feature. Personally, I hope that if Apple releases a foldable device, it will meet the company’s high standards for user experience, where a crease shouldn’t interfere with the display or feel of the phone.

Apple has been hesitant to launch a foldable device for years, reportedly because the technology hasn’t met its quality standards. Additionally, the report suggests that Samsung might supply the screens for the foldable iPhone, with the outer screen likely featuring protective glass from Corning, though it’s still unclear if it will be Ceramic Shield or something else.

By April, Apple needs to finalize its decisions regarding suppliers and parts. Based on this timeline, the report anticipates that the foldable iPhone will debut in the second half of 2026. It’s worth noting that the report implies Apple is focused on achieving a crease-free display without prioritizing reasonable pricing. This raises the question of whether the first foldable iPhone will follow a Vision Pro-like pricing strategy, making it an exquisite device that few may be able to afford.

Foldable phones are already expensive, which might explain why they haven't become mainstream. A completely crease-free foldable iPhone is something I want to see before I can believe it. Knowing Apple, I would bet that we’ll either see a fully crease-less foldable iPhone or no foldable iPhone at all. We'll have to wait and see!

Meanwhile, rumors about the Galaxy Z Fold 7 are also generating excitement, particularly regarding its display—Samsung is reported to have reduced the crease, though it may not have fully eliminated it. The foldable market is evolving, and we’ve even seen a tri-fold model from Huawei, which adds some excitement to what has become a rather dull mobile tech landscape.

I’m curious to see how the foldable market will change when Apple finally enters the scene. Personally, I’m hoping for a clamshell foldable iPhone, but it seems the first model will be more akin to the Fold style.
