Apple to Redesign iPhone 20 Buttons, But One Useless Button Will Remain

Apple is set to replace all mechanical buttons on the iPhone 20 with solid-state alternatives. According to leaker Instant Digital on Weibo, the new haptic button system has passed functional tests and is slated for mass production in 2027. This design could potentially replace the power button, volume controls, Action button, and Camera Control button, confirming earlier rumors of a significant redesign akin to the iPhone X.
Camera Control button to receive the first update
The revamp is expected to start with the Camera Control button on the iPhone 18, featuring a simpler design. Currently, this button uses both capacitive and pressure sensors beneath a sapphire crystal surface to recognize various gestures. The new design will eliminate the capacitive layer, relying solely on pressure sensors, which aims to lower manufacturing costs while maintaining functionality. However, this redesign isn’t particularly innovative, as other devices, like the Oppo X8 Ultra and Vivo X200 Ultra, already achieve similar results with a single pressure sensor.
