ASTA Region IV East (Maricopa) Director
Biotechnology and Computer Programming Teacher,
Tempe Union High School District
Dr. Amber Struthers is the ASTA Region IV East (Maricopa) Director. She has been a scientific literacy advocate and educator for over 16 years, and currently, working full time as a biotechnology and computer programming teacher as well as ESports coach at Tempe High School. She is also an adjunct professor for Rio Salado Community College. She has served as a consultant for the Arizona Department of Education on a variety of science-related projects since 2007. Previous research projects include executive function and scientific literacy (2019) and the relationship between science curriculum aligned to state standards and scientific literacy (2015), Current research projects being pursued include addressing methods of instruction to improve understanding of scientific information with a specific focus on high needs populations. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, exploring cultural resources, volunteering, scientific literacy advocacy, and reading.
AzTEA, Executive Director
Dr. Nan Williams is the Executive Director of the Arizona Technology in Education Association (AzTEA). She has been a classroom teacher, an Ed Tech school liaison, Instructional Technology Coach for an urban school district, Director of Educational Technology for the Arizona Department of Education (ADE), Director of Technology for an urban school district, and now an Executive Director. She has been an AzTEA and International Society for Technology Education (ISTE) member for over 20 years.
In her current role, she serves on many state and national committees for educational technology . Currently, she is serving on the international ISTE COVID-19 Connectivity Working Group as the co-chair and the Arizona Broadband Stakeholder Network as an Education Champion.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling (especially traveling to beaches), reading, and all things EdTech.
