I am currently economist (JPO) at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), working on global value chains and structural change. I am currently involved policy work in the G20 process, on work on digitalization and the green transition, and in this project: iap.unido.org. I am also associated researcher at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) where I was working on issues of sustainability in global value chains as research fellow. We set up a new research network to contribute to this debate, making research accessible to policy audiences and providing insights based on new research. See here.
Before I was lecturer at the Department of Global Economics and Management, University of Groningen, where I defended my PhD theses 'Global Value Chains and Economic Development' in 2020.
I am enthusiastic about economic research and its application in politics and business. I have experiences with policy-related research through consulting work for UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization), IFPRI (International Food Policy Research Institute) and DIE (German Development Institute/Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik), and project-work with the World Bank.
On this website, you find my latest research, as well as some of the (publicly available) policy-related work.
