When I was a freshman, I was offered the opportunity to join STEAM, which is an extracurricular four-year diploma program at Morse High School. In the beginning, I had to create a project proposal based on a topic that included science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. One passion of mine has always been the intricacies of architecture and interior design. I have always loved the ocean, going to the beach, and visiting aquariums with my family. Growing up one of my main heroes was Steve Irwin, and although he is gone, he still is. He made my love for animals and conservation blossom. Therefore, I decided to work with a local organization called Marine Mammals of Maine, who works on rescuing and rehabilitating stranded and injured seals along the Gulf of Maine. After visiting the Marine Mammals of Maine Triage Center and speaking with the Executive Director, Lynda Doughty, I was informed that they were in need of a new space in order to provide quality care for a greater number of seals. So, I decided to make my final capstone project a combination of my two passions (sea life and architecture) and design a new marine life center for the Marine Mammals of Maine.
